EMG (Electromyography)

An NCS (Nerve Conduction Study) and EMG (Electromyography) test is a combined electrodiagnostic procedure that assesses the health of your muscles and the peripheral nerves controlling them, diagnosing issues causing weakness, numbness, or tingling by measuring nerve signal speed (NCS) and muscle electrical activity (EMG).

Preparation for NCS and EMG:

Hygiene: Shower or bathe thoroughly, using soap but no lotions, oils, or creams on your arms/legs/feet.
Clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothes; bring shorts and a short-sleeved shirt for easy access to arms and legs.
Warmth: Keep hands and feet warm (e.g., wear socks), as cold limbs can affect results.
Food/Drink: Eat normally, but consider avoiding caffeine and tobacco for a few hours before.
Medications: Take all prescribed medications unless your doctor says otherwise. Inform your provider about blood thinners (like Warfarin/Coumadin) or pacemakers.
